This photo is from May 15, 2003 in Beverly Hills for the American Heart Association charity event. I had a table selling JoAnne Bassett natural perfumes.

I have participated in my charity events with silent auctions and also with a table of my perfumes for sale. I am also available for consultations for Custom Couture Bespoke natural perfumes for the guests.

A few of the charities I have worked with are the American Heart Association, Del Mar Auxiliary “Hats off to Children”, Orange County Cancer Association, and the American Liver Foundation.

I have also participated in various churches, garden clubs, fundraisers, and private charity events. Send me an email if you would like me to participate.  A percentage of my perfume sales is donated to the cause.

Natural Perfume - Descanso Gardens Rose Festival near Los Angeles, California.

I went to the Rose Festival on Sunday, May 25. What a delightful event! Floral artist Alison Franchi and make-up artist Jennifer Aspinall turned a model into a living piece of art decorated with roses, body paint and jewels. An homage to the gardens at Versailles. What a fabulous job! This model would fit right in with my Royal Collection of natural perfumes.

I was so enchanted with the rose garden, the California native gardens, the tall oaks, the water falls, the rhodies and camelias blooming that I forgot to take photos. The natural perfume of the roses in the 80 degree afternoon sun was amazing. The ride on the train past koi ponds and wonderful large trees was fun. The Boddy house was also interesting and the hike through the forest to get there was great.

Create Your Own Perfume Workshop

It was a great time at Lauren Solomon’s birthday party in Newport Beach, California.  Last night there were 18 guests that had the experience of food, fashion, fragrance, and fun.



During my “Create Your Own Perfume” Workshop everyone was able to learn about the top, middle, and base notes.   I led an “Aromatic Journey” with the essential oils, absolutes, and accords and explained how long they last on the body and the attributes of the oils. Then everyone went into a creative mode and  designed their own natural perfume.



A festive evening ended with many smiles and laughter filling the room.

International Fragrance Day is Today!

Today is International Fragrance Day! What are you wearing? I am wearing one of my favorites..for Spring. It is a refreshing, citrusy green fragrance my Josephine eau de parfum. She is from the Royal Collection.

The Sights and Smells of Paris

Going to Paris for business and pleasure recently was a great idea.  October is off season and most of the tourists are gone.  Looking out my window I am reminded I am in Paris. I love the architecture and the quaint neighborhoods.  Not fond of looking straight down to the street although staying on the top floors is the best for views.  The smells of the neighborhood consisted of fresh bagettes, cigarettes, rain, dry fall leaves, and dog doo on the sidewalk. Fresh caffe au lait was a welcome smell in the early hours.

The line at the Louvre museum on Sunday morning was not as long as I thought it may be for this popular day.  It was a cool windy overcast day so it was a perfect day for the Louvre.  You can easily spend one whole day here.  I especially love the old masters paintings and the Napoleon III apartments.  This is a room from Napoleon III's apartment.  Love the chandelier and the gold gilding on the walls, doors, and every surface imaginable.  Very impressive when you are standing in this luxury.  The smells at the Louvre consisted of old, dusty, patina finishes, tapestry, and worn leather.

Sainte Chapelle is a great example of High Gothic architecture.  This chapel was built between 1242-1248 in accordance of the wishes of King Louis IX.  It was built to house the relics of the Passion of Christ.  It has a splendid upper chapel that was used for the royals and a lower chapel that is also remarkable.  The photo is taken in the upper chapel with amazing 15 stained glass windows that tell "stories".  This chapel was a part of the Palais de la Cite which was the residence of the royals from the 10th to the 14th centuries.  This chapel is being restored so the smells were of dust and scaffolding, metal and paint smells.

I also went to the Palace of Versailles, boutiques, perfume boutiques, the Tuileries Gardens in all of their fall splendor, and many rues too many to name.  The Metro and  sidewalk cafes contain many smells of  cheese, meat, wine, caffe, and chocolate.  Sweet tarts and pastries were everywhere.  Laduree macaroons tempted me more than once.  If I erased the cigarette, cigar smoke and the overheated people in the Metro trains...it would be a pleasant experience.  The smells of rain approaching and leaves falling added to the ambience.

Intimacy Eau de Parfum and Parfum Review

I am so happy to wake up this morning and to discover Victoria at EauMG reviewed my Intimacy parfum from my More Life Collection.

My scent of the day Intimacy eau de parfum.  It is a lovely vintage style chypre.  It comes in both the parfum in organic jojoba oil and the eau de parfum in organic grape alcohol from wine grapes.
